Peter uses the Psalms to tell his first-century audience that Jesus' resurrection amounts to a proof of His identity as Messiah. Pastor Chris explains why we see the sermons in Acts focusing more on the resurrection than on the atonement that Jesus' death provides, and why contemporary American preaching often does the reverse. Download PDF outline.

There are a lot of religious voices out there. To whom should you listen? If you think the problem is bad now, what about during the days of the first-century church? The apostles were preaching a counter-cultural message that claimed a resurrected Savior and that disputed the established authorities' understanding of both Moses and Messiah. The question for the citizen of that day was, "who is telling the truth, who is getting it right?" Pastor Chris studies Acts 1:12-26, and shows that one of Luke's concerns is to identify the voices of apostolic authority. Download PDF outline.

What is unique to all the letters of the New Testament is that they are inspired by God (2 Tim 3:16; 2 Pet 1:21), including these beginning and ending statements.
When you think of the major themes of the New Testament you think of the good news of grace, forgiveness, redemption, and eternal life. In other words, you think of the gospel, and rightfully so. The good news of the gospel permeates throughout the NT. There is however another theme that echo’s the gospel, and it is a theme of warning. Many so-called “believers” are deceived about their true spiritual condition. Jesus himself sent out several warnings for believers to test the genuineness of their faith. Today, Paul shares his concern for the Philippian church and for us, and provides a look at what Real Christianity is and what it isn’t.
The death of Jesus Christ on the cross was certainly the most unusual death witnessed by mankind. The uniqueness was not the mode of execution--many had died by crucifixion--but in the identity of the victim. Jesus is the Son of God. Pastor Chris examines the event itself, and then looks at how the event impacted its viewers. Download PDF outline.

Guilt is one of the common feelings associated with depression, and contributes to the general sense of worthlessness of the sufferer. But is the guilt real? These features are severely intensified in the final seven-year period known as the Tribulation. Perhaps the most characteristic (outside of the wrath of God, which is the chief feature of the Tribulation) is that of deception.

As Jesus begins to tell His disciples what the future holds, He is sitting where the Roman Tenth Legion (Fretensis) will be encamped during the siege of Jerusalem, not 40 years later. But is His Olivet Discourse primarily about the destruction of the Temple in 70 AD, or does it look way beyond? Pastor Chris provides the background of the events of 70 AD, and then explains why the sermon on the Mount of Olives refers to the Second Coming, rather than the destruction of Jerusalem and the Temple by the Romans. The exhortation Jesus gives His disciples is more applicable than ever today: are you ready for the Lord's return? Download PDF outline.

Christmas is wrapped in mystery. The claims of the Christmas story are nothing short of fantastic. Pastor Chris argues for the point that if an all-powerful, all-knowing, eternal God truly exists, then we should expect to encounter mystery when we study Him. Pastor Chris examines three great mysteries: the Trinity, the Incarnation, and the Crucifixion. Download PDF outline.

God's faithfulness to us in the past becomes the accurate predictor of His faithfulness in the future. Pastor Chris studies the prophecy of the Virgin Birth of Jesus Christ, in Matthew 1:23, and places it back into the life situation in which the prophecy was initially given, in Isaiah 7. What emerges from the text is an encouragement to trust God for the future because of His great faithfulness in the past. The fulfillment of the promised miraculous coming of Messiah is for us a concrete example of God's great faithfulness. Download PDF outline.

The church at Ephesus in Revelation 2:1-7 had a balance problem centering around a "love-hate" relationship. The One who knew their deeds, Jesus Christ, applauded them for their diligent hatred of false teaching; but this He had against them: they "left [their] first love." Amidst diligent efforts to "toil and persevere" against "evil men," they had left behind their love for others, and hence their love for God. Jesus exhorted them to repent and return to their deeds of love or risk the removal of their lampstand, the elimination of the flame of their church. Pastor Robb unfolds this Scripture and applies it to us today. No printed outline is available.
"He who has an ear to hear, let him hear what the Spirit says to the churches": "If someone says, 'I love God,' and hates his brother, he is a liar; for the one who does not love his brother whom he has seen, cannot love God whom he has not seen. And this commandment we have from Him, that the one who loves God should love his brother also." (1 John 4:20-21)
